Potawatomi District next District Chair | Kary Brown

The Northeast Illinois Council and Potawatomi District have recently selected Kary Brown to be the next District Chair.  He is stepping into this role from Troop 924 in Evanston, where he has been a member of the Troop Committee.

Kary began his Scouting journey in Arthur, IL as a member of Pack 74.  He fell in love with the outdoors, spending many summers trekking to Camp Robert Drake.  While part of Troop 74, Kary earned his Eagle Scout, was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, staffed Junior Leadership Training (JLT), and attended the National Scout Jamboree.  As an adult, Kary has been active with the NEIC for several years through Packs 922 and 924, Troop 924, and as a member of Ship 2015’s Ship Committee (Pathways to America Council).  He completed his Wood Badge, has held many unit positions, and was often seen with Buff Hoffberg behind the grill at Twilight Camp.

Kary is a Vigil Honor member of Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Lodge and currently serves the Order of the Arrow as the Gateway Region Communications Adviser, a Developing Youth Leadership Conference (DYLC) trainer, and as a manager with the National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) Contingent and Staff Services team.  Previously he has been an OA Troop Adviser, Section C7 and Section G9 Conclave Training Adviser, Namachani Chapter Associate Adviser, and Central Region Technology Adviser.

Kary earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and his Master of Science in Business Intelligence from Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.  Currently, he is a Senior Director within Elevance Health’s Enterprise AI team.  Prior to this role, he has been a leader and a consultant within the healthcare and supply chain industries, as well as an adjunct professor.

Outside of Scouting, Kary loves to spend time with his family and their dogs, create music with his band, and explore the world with a camera.

We invite you to welcome Kary Brown by joining us at the Potawatomi District Recognition Night on Wednesday 5/15/2024 at the Kasperson Center for Scouting.  The event is a non-uniform event and free, all attendees must be 21 or over!  Walk-ins welcome!
