National Youth Leader Training (NYLT) Elevates Leadership: An Interview with Chance HuebnerIn Scouting, leadership isn’t just a role. It’s a journey of growth and learning. For one Scout, National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) became a pivotal experience, enhancing his skills and fostering lifelong connections. “I knew that the course would help me in many areas,” he says, adding that he’s eager to expand his leadership toolkit and empower his troop back home. Throughout NYLT, he cherished the camaraderie and diverse perspectives. “You start off being placed with others you’ve never met before, and by the end of the week, you are all friends,” he shares. From mastering communications to problem-solving, NYLT provided invaluable skills. “I learned a variety of techniques to be an effective leader,” he notes. Returning to his troop, he implemented lessons learned, fostering a Scout-led approach. “The most helpful skill I brought to my troop was planning,” he says. Encouraging others to embark on their own NYLT journey, he emphasizes its transformative power. “No matter their experience, they will improve,” he says. In conclusion, NYLT isn’t just training. It’s a catalyst for personal growth and camaraderie. As Chance sums up, “you get to meet a lot of new people, and the staff make sure that you have an amazing week up there.” NYLT is June 16–22, but the deadline to sign up April 15.
